Set behind a low wall in a quiet Osaka neighbourhood, the house unfolds as a sequence of cast-concrete volumes around a sunken court. Light is treated as a building material: admitted through a single slit in the south wall, it rakes across the board-marked surface for exactly twenty minutes each afternoon.
The plan is deliberately austere — a long gallery, a raised tatami platform, a kitchen reduced to a concrete counter and a single tap. The architects describe the project as "a study in subtraction," removing until only light, mass and silence remained.
Details are resolved with almost monastic discipline. Every junction is a clean shadow gap; every opening frames a fragment of garden. It is a house that asks for attention rather than decoration, and rewards it generously.
Completed in early 2024 for a family of three, the house has already been shortlisted for two regional awards. A full drawing set and construction photographs are available to subscribers.
